Primary Bathroom Remodel
This primary bathroom transformation was all about turning a dated, builder-grade space into a sleek, high-end retreat. The original layout featured bulky cabinetry, tan tile flooring, and an oversized corner tub that made the space feel crowded and uninspired. Our goal was to brighten the room, modernize the finishes, and introduce more visual cohesion while preserving the existing layout for functionality.
The project was completed in March 2023 and took five weeks from start to finish. It took place in the beautiful golf course community of Springfield. This job was particularly surreal and exciting because the client turned out to be NFL player Austin Corbett, who currently starts for the Carolina Panthers.
As a lifelong Panthers fan, it was truly a dream come true to work with an NFL player—especially one from the home team. I was shocked (in the best way) when I realized who I’d be working with. Austin and his wife couldn’t have been kinder or easier to work with. They were deeply involved in the design process and material selections, and their enthusiasm made the project all the more enjoyable.
Before
Fixtures & Appliances
Every detail in this remodel was thoughtfully sourced to achieve a clean, cohesive, and elevated look.
All tile and grout throughout the bathroom were purchased from The Best Tile, while the custom gray double vanity came from L&C Cabinets.
The sleek shower fixtures, floor-mounted tub filler, freestanding bathtub, and toilet were all sourced from Ferguson, ensuring quality and style.
For the vanity cabinetry, we used brushed hardware from Signature Hardware to tie the modern look together.
Paints throughout the space were supplied by Sherwin-Williams, chosen to complement the soft tones of the flooring and finishes.
Design Details
The old corner tub and heavy tile surround were replaced with a sculptural freestanding tub that instantly elevates the entire room. It's paired with a floor-mounted chrome faucet and positioned in front of new, enlarged windows outfitted with simple white blinds, allowing in natural light without compromising privacy.
The walk-in shower was dramatically reimagined. We swapped the dated river rock floor and beige wall tile for a stunning white marble-look porcelain tile that runs wall-to-wall, including into the shower bench and curb.
The new bench, capped in beautiful quartz, adds comfort and polish. Just below it, we added a hidden niche—smart, functional storage without disrupting the clean aesthetic.
The shower floor features a detailed basketweave mosaic tile, and we used a modern linear drain, cleverly tiled to blend in seamlessly with the floor. Clean-lined frameless glass shower doors enclose the space with minimal visual interruption, keeping the room feeling open and expansive.
On the vanity wall, the dark wood cabinets and dated granite were replaced with a custom-built double vanity in a rich, warm gray tone. Full-height tower cabinets on either end create symmetry and valuable storage. Sleek white quartz countertops with delicate veining add brightness and contrast beautifully with the cabinetry.
Behind the sinks, we installed a striking vertically stacked backsplash tile that adds texture and visual interest. Above, modern light fixtures with clean lines and diffused lighting provide ample brightness while adding a polished, contemporary feel to the space.
Throughout the room, large-format white porcelain tile flooring with subtle marble veining ties everything together and makes the bathroom feel larger and more cohesive.
Final Thoughts
This is the job I brag about the most to my friends and family—definitely a dream come true. I’m incredibly proud of our team and how well the project turned out. The clients love the final result, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience.
During the process, Austin and I would chat about sports and football—I tried my best not to embarrass myself! His wife was incredibly sweet and would bake us fresh cookies while we worked.
At the end of the project, they gave me and my crew a generous tip, which we deeply appreciated. Clients like Austin and his wife make this job something special.
